History

About 55 people under the leadership of interim pastor Rev. Robert Lapp held their first service in a building on the southwest corner of South Market Street and Schwanger Road on Sunday, April 4, 1965. During this first year the church bought ground. On the first anniversary of the church Rev. Warren Tamkin assumed responsibilities as full-time senior pastor, a position he held until 1978.

Groundbreaking services were held October 2, 1966, with nearly 200 people present and an average morning attendance of 100. the first unit was dedicated on March 19, 1967.

On May 2, 1971, the congregation broke ground for the new sanctuary and it was dedicated on November 7th.

Rev. Michael Rockafellow was senior pastor from 1978 until December 1985.

In August 1987, Rev. Tim Placeway assumed the ministry of associate pastor, a position in which he continues to faithfully serve.

Rev. Daniel Eshleman served the church from July 1986 until his retirement in May 2002 as senior pastor.

Ground was broken on Sunday, March 12, 1995 for the Family Life Center and additional classrooms. Dedication day was held on Sunday, April 7, 1997.

In August 2002, a new chapter was opened in the life of our church as Rev. Jeff Hoffard began to serve as senior pastor and continues to serve the Body at this time. In October 2002 the congregation initiated yet another change, that of renovating the front of the sanctuary. The work was completed by Sunday, October 27th.

In September 2004 we added the position of Youth Pastor. Matt Vosberg was hired to fill this addition to our staff. Pastor Tim Placeway assumed the role of Associate Pastor of Music and Christian Education.

With every change to our church, we can never lose sight of the fact that the church is not a building! The church is people who Christ loves and for whom He died. It is with this realization that we move forward – all to the glory of God!
